The Delegates

Many thanks to UCD Caving and Potholing Club for organising the Irish Student Caving Forum, an annual event which this year took place over the Easter weekend this year, in the Kiltyclogher Holiday Centre, Co. Leitrim.

A great weekend was had by all – there is clearly a surge in interest in caving amongst the student community in Ireland. Clubs attending included UCDCPC (hosts), DCUCC, DITCC and QUBCC. Friday night saw everyone arriving early in futile hopes of getting an elusive bed. Saturday night there were talks including Éabha Lankford (ICRO Secretary) and Hugh Norton (Chairperson of the SUI), Liam Woods gave a talk about the Dachstein caving expedition and Sean the Miner gave an interesting and varied talk which included the launch of SUICRO 2017 – which will be held in Garrison, Co. Fermanagh. There was a raffle and a table quiz in aid of ICRO.

The SUI supports the running of the student caving forum financially by way of a grant to the organising club.
